Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short time in folk-based groups comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff created the track with Johnny Cash in mind but the moment Denver heard an early version immediately, he realized the track could become the next hit single.
